4 Steps to a Winning Social Media Strategy

Jackie L.

Being on social media makes business owners feel either two things; creative explosion or absolute withdrawal and avoidance.  Social media is a beast!  There’s no denying it.  The amount of updates coming out of Instagram is enough to make social media managers put their head in their hands and weep. That’s where having a social media strategy will help you.

But if you have a strong strategy, you can make social media work for you, plus not feel so scary!  Let’s look at some tips to help you create the best social media strategy possible.

Stop Worrying About Follower Numbers!

Follower numbers don’t count in how well you are doing.  If one business is selling to 10 people out of 100 followers and another is selling to 10 people out of 10,000, guess who is doing better?  What does matter is the type of followers you have.  If you have 10,000 followers, how many of those are in your target audience?  If our followers are a bunch of random people and we are not selling as well as we should be, then it means our strategy has to change to get that target audience engaging with you.

Engagement Counts!

Success should be measured by how engaging your content is.  This is not just likes, but comments, shares, and saves.  If your content has very few of these, you need to rethink the tye of content you are putting out.  All content should keep 3 important things in mind: Education, Entertaining, and Engaging.  Think of it this way, have a hook to get people interested, give the solutions to the pain point in the hook, then give them a call to action!

Audit Your Hashtags!

Don’t put the same hashtag group on every post.  This will tell the algorithm that your content isn’t worth it.  Get a few groups of hashtags in your social media strategy.  Review these and keep adding to or subtracting them.  Stay away from using large popular hashtags and get more unique with your choosing.  Play with them to see which hashtags perform the best by checkin your analytics.

Don’t Forget Stories!

Your stories are a way for people to really get to know you and your business, as they are an extremely popular way to interact with you.  Post behind the scenes, your everyday happenings, special tips or advice, and get to talking to the camera here.  Stories are most likely to be seen as the algorithm may not show all newsfeed content to your target audience.  Get creative and remember that stories are more raw and unfiltered.  Be authentically you!

If your social media strategy has educational, entertaining, and engaging content, it will guarantee more sales and quality followers who are into your service or product!  Get creative and know that the sky’s the limit!
