Churning out consistent written content can be taxing on our creative sides. We always want to make sure we sound engaging and interesting. We want to grab our audience quickly, take them for a wild ride, and leave them feeling like they learned something valuable.
But, sometimes… There’s just not enough coffee in the world to get our minds running enough to write one more blog post or email newsletter copy. We understand how hard it can be. We want to give you 3 amazing tips that might help inspire you to create more written content easily.
When we are feeling especially uncreative or can’t seem to focus, we will procrastinate on writing. Don’t wait! Just start writing. Write about what’s around you. Check out your idea bank and see what topics you haven’t covered. The time you are in is for writing only, not checking Instagram or scrolling endlessly through Reddit (we’ve all been there…). Even if you start writing and walk away for a bit, your mind will be driven to complete an unfinished task.
If you are like me, you want to chug away hard to get things done. Before I know it, I am exhausted and it’s been 3 hours of constant writing. Now, I have no energy left to dedicate to creating written content. The key is to take frequent, short breaks. Set a timer for 30 minutes or an hour. Once that timer goes off, don’t force yourself to keep going. Stop. Walk around the apartment or house. Get a drink of water or hot tea. Pet the dog or play with the kids. Whatever it is, take that break. You will be more refreshed and able to write better and faster.
Did you know that people who go to bed late are more likely to suffer from negative thoughts the following day? That’s why going to bed and waking up early is the most beneficial thing you can do for your writing. For some, it’s not easy to wake up early. If you are one of those people, work your way up to a good time. New habits build when we start them small and slowly increase them to where they become an actual habit in our routine.
If you need help waking up, try having your favorite song come on instead of an annoying alarm beep. Set the coffee pot to have your coffee ready for you when you wake up. Do some light exercise like walking or your favorite Youtube yoga video. Just remember how good it’s going to feel to get that content done and you have a whole day of free time ahead of you!
It’s amazing how 3 simple things can help your writing immensely. Not only will they increase your creative writing skills, but you will also feel good in the end. And, we could all use feeling good right about now.
