Wasn’t that fun? If you were like the rest of us, there was a lot of panic when Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp went down simultaneously. Many online businesses depend on social media for marketing and selling their products and services. When they go down, it can cause quite a bit of negative results.
That’s why… you should never rely on social media to reach your followers. This past Monday was a huge wake up call to something that online marketers have been saying for a while.
So, what do you do? How do you continue to stay in contact with your followers when social media goes away?
Once your content goes up on social media, it is at risk of being erased. It’s actually no longer yours. If your 1,000s of followers are not on your email list, there is no way to keep in contact with them. When you have an email list, you will have a constant connection to your customer base, no matter what happens to your social media platforms.
That’s why it is so important, and vital, to the success of your business that you grow this email list.
You may be thinking, “How do I grow this list??” I’m glad you asked.
Everyone loves a freebie. If you want to entice your followers to join your email list, offer them something for free in exchange for their email. If you are just asking them to sign up, don’t expect them to jump at the chance. And, it doesn’t have to be a freebie. You can give a coupon code, a cheatsheet, an ebook, or a webinar. Whatever it is, make sure it’s something they would love to have for free.
You have that amazing freebie. They go to your landing page and this is where you can tell them what to expect. Tell them what sort of content they will receive, the benefits of signing up for the email, and how many emails to expect from you. The last one is a huge one to mention. If you are going to send emails everyday and some customers aren’t keen on that, they should know.
You need to decide how often you are going to email your list. Every industry is different, and then every customer is different. It’s recommended to email your subscriber list around 1-2 times a month. Again, this is going to vary depending on how much valuable content you have plus what your customers are willing to handle.
We all learned that social media cannot be depended on to market and sell to our customer base. That’s why it is so important to gather emails and grow your email list. If you have one but have been ignoring it, start diving in to reviving it. If you haven’t started on yet, sign up for Mailchimp or Mailerlite and start building that list!
