3 Huge Marketing Mistakes to Avoid

Jackie L.

Marketing is probably one of the most complicated and time-consuming areas of a business.  Your marketing strategy can make or break an online company.  Our bread and butter is digital marketing, which can take many forms- email newsletters, social media, blogging, and so on.  Making a mistake in any or all these areas can cost you, not only precious time, but money, too.

If you find that your marketing strategy is falling flat on its face more times than not, check out these mistakes you may be making.

No Presence on Social Media

Your business needs to be on several social media platforms.  This is non-negotiable.  B2C businesses find that social media is the most popular way to market content.  Not being on social media is the fastest way to have an online business, and even a brick-and-mortar business, go down fast.  Whether we like it or not, social media is being used by almost every generation, so we should be focusing our efforts there.

Not sure which platform is right for your business?  This is where knowing your target audience comes into play.  When you know them, you can easily find the right platforms to become active on.  Once you find your preferred social media platforms, you can save yourself a load of time by posting everything with an automation tool, like Buffer.  This way, you can schedule all your content for the whole month and not have to think about it!

A Message That Goes Over Their Heads

There’s nothing worse than a business who has a great message but it’s all lost on the target audience.  Leave the industry jargon at the door and write the message in the eyes of the customer.  How can you make the message short, sweet, and clear?  Is there an obvious Call-to-Action?  If not, it’s time to re-write everything.

Customers want ease when it comes to doing business with you.  Make sure your marketing message is clear.  You are selling to everyday people, not businesses.  Make them feel you understand them and their problems, and they will feel more connected with you and your company.

The Lack of Relevant Content

Around 70% of customers enjoy reading or watching content from a business that interests them.  Creating creative and interesting media is a challenge.  However, we cannot just create any and all content, hoping more people will come to our website.  The less relevant your content is to your target audience, the less likely they are to even find your website.  Again, knowing who your target audience is half the battle.  Once you know them, it’s a piece of cake to create meaningful content for them to enjoy and look forward to reading.

As you can see, having a relevant digital marketing strategy is key to having a successful business.  Make sure you know your target audience.  Knowing them allows you to easily market your product or service, saving you time and money in the long run.
